MobiTubia Youtube client now available for download!

Sittiphol announced that he'd have Mobitubia available for download today, and he has fulfilled that promise. Mobitibia is the Youtube client developed by Sittiphol Phanvilai that was awarded the grand prize of $10,000 in the Open C Challenge.

Originally Sittiphol announced that he would cancel development of the application but he's now decided to carry on, which can only be a good thing.

Upon downloading it (Thanks Bery) I immediately fired it up and tried watching some videos, unfortunately, the video/sound skips towards the beginning unlike emtube. This mig
ht just be for me though, so I suggest you try it before knocking it. Download it here.

P.S. When you open the application you'll be presented with a screen that looks like this:
Just press the middle button (or any button?) to get to the menu.

Samir reveals LoudUp and ShakeMe......Names

OK, surely you have heard of Samir by now and you may also remember the weeks prior to ShutUp's unveiling to the world. Samir has now released the names of his two mystery applications that he announced he had been working on in the beta tester forums; LoudUp and ShakeMe.

No information is known about the applications yet so your guess is just as good as mine. If Samir does it in the same way as ShutUp, we should be seeing a demonstration video along with a summary of the application's capabilities in a few weeks.

Maybe these applications will be for the music player?LoudUp to increase the volume and ShakeMe to change tracks.

Only time will tell.

EDIT: Bery95 of the Symbian Web Blog posted that he's found some information that has lead him to believe that LoudUp will allow the user to have the phone start a call in loudspeaker mode automatically.

ShutUp Beta 1 released and ready for download!

Still remember Samir? You know! The guy that brought us RotateMe and NokMote...DUH! Well, he hasn't released any thing in a while but that has just changed with the release of ShutUp beta 1!

ShutUp was announced quite a while back accompanied with this rather cheesy demonstration video:

As you should know Samir tests his applications by allowing donators to download them and then make suggestions, these suggestions are what will make up the final version of the application.

Anyways, I got my version of ShutUp and it's pretty good! Of course Samir included some features that gives ShutUp an advantage over FlipSilent, the most notabl
e being the 'SlideCall Mode' which allows you to end a call...by sliding your phone down OR up! Yup, Samir has filled another void created by Nokia on the N95.

Go and get yours now!

emTube version 1.0.10 available...BUT

As I was checking blogs this morning a post on Symbian Web Blog caught my eye: emTube has been updated to version 1.0.10!

After reading the changelog I went to the emTube site on my N95 8GB and proceeded to download and install the updated version of the application. Here's the changelog for those who are interested:

Fixed the infamous 404 error.
New: emTube searches now include restricted content.
New: added Spanish, Bulgarian and Hebrew translations.
New: added "sort by" option to the search view, also available as an settings option.
Fixed problems with playback of FLV files generated by SUPER conversion program.
Fixed: download percentage on the navigation pane wasn't updated in some circumstances.
New: Saved clips view now includes an option to scan your phone memory / memory card for flash video files.
Fixed: A lot of bug fixes and small changes suggested by users to improve usability.

Unfortunately, I've found an issue that means that I won't be keeping this version on my phone and will be reverting to 1.0.9 beta 5. Maybe some of you have also noticed it; for some reason the loading speed feels much slower on 1.0.10 compared to the previous versions.

If the above is true, I hope Sebastian will be able to fix it!

Youtube/Flash Videos on the N95 8GB

You'll remember that a couple weeks ago I posted here that the N95 8GB had received a firmware upgrade allowing it to play youtube and other flash video site's videos without the need of any third party applications.

As you should also know, I now have my own N95 8GB which I'm loving. Anyways, I thought I would make a small guide on two ways to watch youtube on the N95 8GB; Using the inbuilt browser and emtube.

Here's the video.

video

S60 Browser:

1) Fire up your browser and head to the Youtube site. You'll be greeted with the above page if it's your first time so just click on "View Desktop Version"

2) Search for your desired video.

3) Click on your video of choice.

4) Double click on the actual video and it'll go into full screen. That's it.

Advantages of this method:

  • No need to install third party software.
  • It's just like on your PC at home.
Disadvantages of this method:
  • The video is shakey when it hasn't been fully loaded yet.
  • The video loads slowly compared to other methods.

Emtube:

1) Go to the emtube site and install the first downloadable option.

2) The zip file will automatically be opened by ZipManager, open and install the sisx file. Just keep pressing continue and OK during the installation process.

3) Once it's installed, go to your applications and open emtube which will be the last application.

4) Click on search and search for your desired video.

5) Click on your video of choice.

6) Press the select button on your N95 8GB once the video's loaded and if you want to go into full screen mode turn your device to the left (vigorously) or press the 1 key.

Advantages of this method:
  • Higher quality than the browser solution.
  • Truely full screen.
  • No need to wait for video to load fully to avoid skips.
Disadvantages of this method:
  • Restricted to youtube only
  • It's a third party application...
Emtube is my favourite solution because of its speed, ease of use and reliability. Quality is something that I just can't ignore and youtube on emtube is filled with quality.

Choose whichever method suits you or if these aren't good enough and there's a better solution that you use please don't forget to tell me ;)

N95 8GB and Nokia BH-803

Well, I haven't posted in quite a while now and felt it was time for a lil' update.

Well, first of all, when Siobhan of WOMWorld asked me to give my thoughts on the Nokia BH-803 headset, I couldn't resist!

The Nokia BH-803 is a bluetooth headset (a very good looking one at that) that weighs in at just 11g but packs a touch sensitive panel for controlling the volume and features DSP (Digital Signal Processing) for crystal clear conversations. I'll be writing up a review soon.

Next up is great news for me...My dad bought me a N95 8GB! Finally I've moved up from the N73. This is the first time I've seen or held a N95 8GB and it's all mine! I was a bit dissapointed with some negatives of the phone though...

  1. I got an N95 8GB with a loose(r) right side.
  2. The browser sometimes closes when I'm playing youtube videos even with the vast amount of RAM this baby is packing.
Also, why doesn't holding the camera button activate the camera when the phone's locked? My 6680 and N73 did this with their camera protectors and I believe the standard N95 does this too, so why doesn't the beast do it aswell?

On the other hand I was very surprised at how quickly I was able to debrand and update the firmware to V15 compared to when I updated my N73 a few months ago. The whole process took way, way, way less than 10 minutes (That includes changing the product code, downloading the update, and updating.) Happy days!

Black N82 pictures: Real or Fake?

What you see before you is either some sort of leaked image of a Nokia N82, or simply another (pretty well done) photoshop job. Whether it be the former or the latter, I can certainly say that it looks good.

I'm personally leaning on it being a photoshop, though, seeing as when I brought you news of live images of the white N82 a few weeks ago the back was coloured white, whilst the front remained the same.

I would be satisfied if it looks like this, though!

Thanks, ovR

EDIT: It has been confirmed that this isn't a genuine black N82 nor a photoshop job. It's simply a screenshot from the N82 N-Series page taken when the phone was at a particular angle. Oh well.

Want to download ShutUp but just can't wait?

Samir has been very busy trying to finalise RotateMe and NokMote. Because of this he hasn't been able to work very much on ShutUp, another one of his highly anticipated applications...inevitably, a competitor has arised in the form of Tong Ren of Symbianblog.com who has posted his own app called FlipSilent.

It works in a very similar way to Samir's ShutUp meaning it allows you to simply physically turn your phone over and depending on your choice this will either change your profile to silent, reject a call or do both.

Unfortunately there's no download available and you must send your IMEI to Tong to receive a signed version of the app, which could prove to be tedious for him. EDIT: A new version of flipsilent, 1.01 is available here, you must sign it with a Certificate file specifically for your phone. I will sign for a few people if asked nicely :). Anyways, the more developers the merrier, I say!

Enjoy!

Desktop (FULL) Youtube on the N95 8GB

The Symbian Guru, Ricky Cadden, has updated his N95 8GB to version 15 which came out today, so far he has said that there are speed improvements in the phone and something else....

Flash Lite 3 support in the browser!

This means that you can now view Youtube (and other online flash video sites) videos, STRAIGHT FROM YOUR S60 BROWSER meaning no need for third party applications:

When will such an update come to the vanilla N95 or even older devices though? I hope Nokia don't keep us waiting.

This could be the start of something new (pun certainly intended) on mobile phones and Nokia are certainly leading the way!

REAL live pictures of Nokia N82 WHITE

Recently there's been alot of buzz surrounding the confirmation that there'll be new colour variants of the N82 heading our way.

A couple days ago, images surfaced showing what appeared to be just a standard N82 but with the flash making it look white.

WELL, folks, we finally have some real live pictures of the white N82 :
Images taken from here, story found on JustAMP

Unfortunately, the front hasn't changed so it looks like we won't be seeing white N82s resembling the leaked renders from last year. Atleast it comes with matching accessories I guess.

Now we only have to wait for the Live pictures of the black N82, which when found I'll certainly post on here.
