Nokia N8 Schematics Confirm Broadcom BCM2727 GPU

Remember those N8 benchmarks from a while back? The impressive results were down to a sweet, sweet combination of Symbian^3 and the N8's GPU. You'd think Nokia would be shouting from the rooftops about such a GPU, right? Wrong. There has been no confirmation from Nokia as to which GPU is used in the N8. Rumours have been circulating for a while, but now we finally have visual confirmation that the N8 uses the Broadcom BCM2727 multimedia processor.

Nokia's official schematics for the N8 were uploaded by Tsar3000. Inside the document is a high-resolution photograph of the N8's mainboard. Zooming in, you can see this:

Huzzah! No more rumours! Now it's confirmed: the Nokia N8 features a Broadcom BCM2727 GPU.

But what does it mean?

Did you know that this GPU was announced back in 2007? Anyways, Broadcom's website claims the BCM2727 allows for 'high-quality multimedia features for mobile phones and advanced media players while retaining long battery life'. In this case, long battery life means up to three hours of 720p HD video capture on your Nokia N8.
